The Complete Indian National Flag

“Har ghar Tiranga” was one of the unique campaigns of the current government. It was overwhelming to see the Indian National Flag at every doorstep. It gave a message of oneness- I am there to serve you and you are there to serve me. It invoked the feelings of patriotism in all, irrespective of age, caste, stature etc. Such feelings are always there in our heart. We all love our motherland. But just like, we forget to tell our mother that we love her, similarly, we take this mother for granted too. We constantly fight and get angry at her. But in the end, she is always there for us. So, gratitude was the biggest feeling that this campaign made us all realize!

Actually, I never thought about the Indian flag so much and in such a unique way. The colors are symbolic of a few qualities, that are so essential to complete a human life. So, let’s see our flag from the yogic perspective to understand the completeness of the Indian National Flag and the life itself.

Orange color stands for courage/ strength. Mark the word which is not synonymous to power. Power is control of others and their actions. Courage/strength is control of ourselves and our actions. Only when we act with faith, confidence and strength, the actions create the desired effect. Desired by the nature and not you as a person. This color brings us back to our roots by creating action. This is the Rajas, that is constantly moving. We have to make only this first step. The desire to do the right thing, the correct action, as emphasized by Lord Buddha also. This is a very subjective thing which needs an intricate mind, a tremendous willpower and ultimately Grace to work.

When we are rooted in work, that is innate to our nature (Tada Drushte Swarupe Awasthanam), there comes an unending peace that is signified by the next color- white. The Satva of our life, which childishly and naturally follows the right action. It makes us aware, observant and witness. This looks complete in itself, but the one who understands Sankhya/Yoga philosophy, they know that it does not stay like that forever. Peace is there just as unrest, only for some time. But we need to try to stay in that peaceful witness phase by sticking to the right action 24 hours (the chakra with 24 spikes). This will keep the wheel of life moving.

Result will be prosperity, the next color of the flag, green. This is an illusion. Because we are working in the correct direction it invokes the pride, laziness and all the Tamas in us. But like the Satva, this too does not stay constant. And ultimately leads us to crave for the correct action again.

Like many other beautiful things India has given to the world, it has also showed the essence of a complete life in just three colors!

Jai Hind!!!
